All Hail the Economy of the World of Warcraft
The economy is a fun topic on a game like World of Warcraft. In the General forums there's regularly discussions going on about folks who "overprice" or "underprice" things in the Auction House and how they're "affecting the economy" by doing so.
And let's not get into the whole circular problem that includes gold sellers - people buy gold because purchases are expensive on the server, and because there's more gold floating around in the Realm economy, things in the Auction House are more expensive. Round and round it goes.
In general, the economy is what the market will bear. If things are too expensive on a regular basis, it's either because others don't see it as "too expensive" like you do, or it truly IS too expensive and the price will naturally drop since buyers will not buy.
Here's a good Economy drama-fest from the Arygos Realm:
Economics. It's an easy word to spell, and to understand. With this being said, let's try as a new server to know and stand by certain rules of thumb. Let me be the first to ask that certain Alchemists do not charge 5g per Major Mana potion! And don't you realize that 3g for a Major Healing potion makes me want to kill kittens. Please, please, please.. do not start this on Arygos. Also, just because an item is glowing with purple happiness does not mean it is worth 1000g. Be real with your sales and the AH can be friends to us all. This is a new start for a lot of us and this is going to bring new items and loot to the AH. Let's all be realistic and we can all make a unified start to a realm that will certainly be filled with many ideas, types of players, and most of all, a ton of experience.
Hate if you must, but I am sure I speak for MANY other players as well.
I personally find the comment "Let's all be realistic" to be pretty funny. After all, as Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds taught us, there is no realism once a crowd is brought into play.
